Statement of Faith
The following list of statements are what we believe to be the truth of the Bible and indicate our position on basic Christian doctrines.
God is love. This fundamental quality of God is essential to the healthy functioning of Christ's body on the earth. It is through the Lord's unconditional love that God's people are to reveal Jesus Christ to the world (Jeremiah 31:3; Matthew 22:34-40; John 3:16-17; Romans 5:8, 8:38-39; Ephesians 5:1-2; 1 John 4:7-9).
Godly men were inspired by the Holy Spirit to write the sixty-six books that are collectively known as the Holy Bible. The Scriptures reveal God's promised Savior. They are without error in their original form, and no other writings are greater than or equal to the authority of the Bible (John 20:30-31; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21).
There is only one true God who reveals Himself in three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. These three persons coexist, yet are one God (Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Chronicles 17:11-14; Isaiah 9:6; Matthew 28:19; Luke 3:21-22; John 5:25, 15:26).
Jesus Christ is the unique Son of God as expressed by the following:
Jesus existed in the beginning with God as the Word of God and was the Creator (John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:15-20).
He emptied Himself of His glory and became flesh, being born of a virgin by the Seed of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:20-23; John 1:14, 5:26; Philippians 2:6-7)
Christ was the first born of the Holy Spirit and is the image of the invisible God in whom the fullness of God dwells. Jesus is above all things and in Him all things consist (Colossians 1:15-20; Hebrews 1:3).
Jesus was supernaturally resurrected from the grave. Over 500 people witnessed the Lord's appearances on earth prior to His ascension into heaven (Mark 16:1-8; John 20:1-22:14; 1 Corinthians 15:3-6).
Man was originally made in the image of God, but willfully chose to sin. This released evil and death into the world (Genesis 1:27, 3:6; Deuteronomy 30:17-18; Romans 5:12, 19).
Sin separates man from God. All people are guilty of sin and cannot achieve God's righteous standards by their own efforts (Genesis 3:23-24; Isaiah 53:6, 64:6; Romans 3:10-12, 23, 5:12).
Father God has provided the way for people to be restored in relationship with Him through the sacrifice of His only begotten Son, Jesus, who never sinned. Through His crucifixion, Jesus endured in His own body the punishment we deserve for our sin. This deed has provided the only way people can be restored in right relationship with God (Isaiah 53:5-6, 11-12; John 3:14-17, 14:6; Acts 4:12; Romans 6:23; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21).
Salvation is provided to people through God's grace, which was extended to us through Christ's death on the cross. To be saved one must recognize and reject one's own sinfulness (repentance), and believe that God has provided forgiveness through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus (Matthew 4:17; John 1:16-17, 3:36; Acts 3:19-20, 17:30-31; Ephesians 2:8-9).
God does not differentiate among people. Salvation and eternal life are available to all who will believe (Galatians 3:26-28; Colossians 3:1).
When a person truly becomes a follower of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit brings about spiritual birth and inner transformation. One must be born of the Holy Spirit in order to receive salvation. Changes then become evident in our behavior (Ezekiel 36:25-27; John 3:3-8; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Galatians 2:20, 5:22-25).
Baptism by immersion in water is a symbolic ritual in which one publically testifies of one's faith that Jesus is Savior and Lord (Matthew 3:1-6, 16; John 3:26; Acts 8:12; Romans 6:3-6).
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit occurs after conversion. The Scriptures reveal that the gift of speaking in tongues is the primary evidence of it. Through this baptism the believer is empowered by the Holy Spirit and given gifts (Matthew 3:11; Acts 1:5, 8; Acts 2:1-4, 8:4-17, 10:44-46; 1 Corinthians 12: 4-11).
The powerful works of miracles and healing that the Lord did while living on Earth continue to be worked through His followers who believe because Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever@ (Hebrews 13:8). Jesus now lives in His followers through His Holy Spirit, who was first given to dwell inside believers at Pentecost (Mark 16:17-18; John 14:12-14; Acts 1:8, 2:1-4, 6:8, 8:6, 19:11-12; Colossians 1:27).
Jesus will return to the earth with His followers and reign over the earth for 1,000 years (Matthew 24:27; 1 Thessalonians 4:15-17; Revelation 19:11-14, 20:1-6).
There will be two judgments: The Judgment Seat of Christ is for the evaluation and rewards of believers (Matthew 16:27; 2 Corinthians 5:9-10). The Great White Throne Judgment is for those who refuse to turn from their sins and receive the Lord's forgiveness (Revelation 20:11-15). Heaven is the eternal home of those who obey the Lord (Psalm 103:19; John 14:2-3; Revelation 7:15-17). Hell is the eternal destiny and second death of those who reject God's rule over their lives (Matthew 13:41-42; Revelation 20:10-15).
God instituted the giving of tithes and offerings in order to support ministry, spread the Gospel and also release blessings to His children (Genesis 14:18-20; Malachi 3:10-12; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2).
